Over the years, Kisoro Town has had a track record of being the headquarters of Bufumbira County, kisoro Sub-District and presently, Kisoro District. These changes have seen Kisoro grow from a village Bazaar, Town Board and later to Town Council status since 1984 and now 2016 Municipal Council. Kisoro Municipality has 3 Divisions, 7 Municipal wards and 24 cells/villages.
